Why dotted paper
Dots give you the structure of graph paper, with alignment for boxes, charts and letters, but they disappear under ink, so finished pages read like a blank sheet. That is why dot grid has become the default for bullet journals, UI wireframes and hand lettering practice.
For printing at home, keep dots small and light grey (0.3–0.5 mm). Dark dots look fine on screen but fight your pen on paper.
Questions
What is the standard dot grid spacing?
5 mm. It is what most dotted notebooks use and it maps neatly to one square per two lines of small handwriting.
Can I print dot grid paper for an A5 planner?
Yes. Choose A5 as the page size, or print A5 pages two at a time on A4 using your printer’s “2 pages per sheet” option at 100% scale.
Why are the dots faint when printed?
Very small dots can drop out on some laser printers. Increase dot size to 1.6 pt or pick a darker grey.
