Fabric count and chart size
Aida is sold by count, the number of stitches per inch. 14-count is the common beginner fabric; 16 and 18 give finer detail; 11-count is easier on the eyes. A design 140 stitches wide will be 10 in on 14-count and 7.8 in on 18-count. Printing the chart at the same count lets you lay the paper against the fabric to check size.
The bold lines every 10 squares match the 10×10 blocks used on commercial charts, and the red marks point to the centre, where most stitchers begin.

What does 14 count mean?
14 stitches (squares) per inch of fabric.
Can I chart for linen or evenweave?
Yes. When stitching over two threads, halve the thread count: 28-count linen over two works like 14-count Aida.
